This role is for nurses who already understand addiction — and want to do the work properly.
We are recruiting an experienced Addiction Nurse to join a community-based Multidisciplinary Health Team supporting people with substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness and complex health needs in Dublin 1.
Applications are welcomed from:

  • Registered General Nurses (RGN) with solid addiction experience
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPN) with addiction, dual-diagnosis or community mental health backgrounds

This is not an entry-level role. It requires clinical confidence, emotional intelligence and a clear understanding of harm reduction, trauma-informed practice and recovery-oriented care.

Your Impact as an Addiction / Community Nurse
Working across outreach, primary care and community settings, you will:

  • Deliver specialist addiction nursing care in community and outreach environments
  • Provide harm-reduction interventions, overdose response and health education
  • Support dual-diagnosis clients with addiction and mental health needs
  • Manage wound care, BBV prevention, chronic illness and relapse prevention
  • Conduct domiciliary visits across Dublin 1 and surrounding communities
  • Work closely with GPs, psychiatrists, social workers, housing and addiction services
  • Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and confidentiality
  • Contribute to MDT case reviews, audits and service improvement
  • Model non-judgmental, dignified and inclusive care at all times

Essential Requirements

  • NMBI registration as:
    • Registered General Nurse or
    • Registered Psychiatric Nurse
(Active PIN for 2025 or full eligibility at final registration stage)
  • Demonstrated experience in addiction services (community, residential or outreach)
  • Currently living in Ireland and available to work on-site in Dublin 1
  • Legal right to work in Ireland (no visa sponsorship)
  • Garda Vetting is mandatory for relevant roles.
  • International Police Clearance is required where a candidate has lived or worked outside Ireland for 6 months or more since the age of 16
  • Fluent English (verbal and written)

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience in harm reduction, methadone programmes or dual diagnosis
  • Background in community mental health, homelessness or marginalised populations
  • Training in trauma-informed care or motivational interviewing

Salary & Benefits

  • €46,226 annual salary
  • 35-hour working week with work–life balance
  • Core hours 9am–5pm (Mon–Fri) with flexibility between 8am–8pm when required
  • Permanent / fixed-term contract (funding dependent)
  • Access to ongoing training, CPD and clinical supervision
  • Supportive, progressive, values-led healthcare environment
  • Opportunity to make a genuine difference in Dublin’s most underserved communities
