Chef Grade 1 - Healthcare facility in Blackrock

Job Summary:
Location: Blackrock
Hourly Pay Rate: €19.71 (Double pay on Sundays and Bank Holidays)
Working Hours: 7am-5pm, 5 days per week (including weekends)


  • As the Chef Grand 1, you will oversee the culinary operations of the hospital's kitchen. Your main duties will include:
  • Menu Planning: Creating nutritious and well-balanced menus that cater to diverse dietary requirements, ensuring high-quality and appetizing meals for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Food Preparation: Supervising the preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals, ensuring strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Team Management: Leading and motivating a team of kitchen staff, fostering a positive work environment, and encouraging teamwork and collaboration.
  • Inventory Management: Monitoring and managing food stock levels, placing orders, and ensuring efficient ingredient utilization to minimize waste and control costs.
  • Compliance: Ensuring compliance with HSE guidelines, relevant regulations, and maintaining high standards of health and safety within the kitchen area.


  • To succeed in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:
  • Culinary Expertise: Proven experience as a Chef Grade 1 or in a similar role within a fast-paced kitchen environment. Knowledge of nutrition and special dietary requirements is essential.
  • QQI Level 6 in Culinary Arts: A recognized qualification in Culinary Arts at QQI Level 6 or equivalent.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to effectively manage and inspire a team. Experience in training and developing kitchen staff is desirable.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to food preparation, plating, and presentation, maintaining consistently high standards of quality and hygiene.
  • Time Management: Excellent organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines within a demanding kitchen environment.
  • Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, patients, and other stakeholders.
