The Role

Dietitians are responsible for the nutritional care of patients while in the acute healthcare setting  They carry out nutritional assessment of patients and design care plans to meet nutritional requirements or correct poor nutritional status.

Requirements:

  • CORU Registered
  • Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem solving, time management and communication skills

Education requirements:

Possess the Bachelor of Science (Level 8) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the Dublin Institute of Technology and the University of Dublin, from 2009

OR

  • Possess the Bachelor in Science (Level 8) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Dublin and the Graduate Diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the Dublin Institute of Technology, from 2006 to 2013

OR

  • Possess the Bachelor in Science (Level 8) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Dublin and the Diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, from 1988 to 1993

OR

  • Possess the Bachelor in Science (Level 8) in Human Nutrition from the University of Dublin and the Diploma in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee, in 1987

OR

  • Possess a qualification in Dietetics at least equivalent to (i) above

OR

  • In the case of an individual employed as a Dietician in the Irish public health system prior to 1987 and who has continued in employment as a Dietician in the Irish public health system:
  • Possess a Diploma in Dietetics and Nutrition from the City of Dublin Vocational Educational Committee awarded after 1976 and before 1987

OR

  • Possess a Diploma in Dietetics from the City of Dublin Vocational Educational Committee awarded after 1948 and before 1977
  • Must undertake Garda Vetting / Police Clearance
  • Successful Candidate must undergo a medical assessment
