Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nurse Part Time
Location:  Kildare

An established veterinary clinic in Co. Kildare is seeking a part-time Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nurse to join its dedicated team. This is a unique opportunity to become part of a brand-new Out of Hours service, ensuring 24/7 care for patients in need.

The successful candidate will be a Registered Veterinary Nurse (VCI) with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, ideally with a background in emergency or referral practice.

Role Details:

  • Part-time contract (3-day week)

  • Night shifts every third week (MondayWednesday nights)

  • Reporting to the Lead Vet

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional round-the-clock care for critically ill and injured animals
  • Monitor vital signs, assess pain levels, and administer appropriate treatments
  • Assist vets during emergency procedures, including resuscitation, wound management, and surgery
  • Triage emergency cases and prioritize based on severity

  • Administer medications, fluids, and nutritional support under veterinary supervision
  • Assist with anesthesia and post-operative recovery care

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI)

  • At least 5 years small animal nursing experience

  • Strong clinical and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and work independently

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualifications in ECC

  • Previous experience in a busy emergency or referral hospital

  • Keen interest in night and weekend emergency work
