Servisource on behalf of our clients are currently seeking an Environmental Safety Officer near Drogheda on a part time, temporary basis.
Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years’ experience working in a similar role.
The aim of this role is to proactively work with managers to establish and maintain a system that promotes a culture of Environmental awareness across the Plant. The Environmental Safety Officer will inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government environmental regulations and industry standards and to be the main point of contact between the Company and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Tasks and responsibilities
Daily business tasks, routine tasks and interfaces to other departments;
Engage and promote best practices in Health and Safety throughout the Company;
Manage and actively lead best practice Environmental standards and practices throughout the Company;
Ensuring Environmental Management System and Quality Management Systems are maintained in accordance with ISO Standards;
Performing Quality and Environmental Audits on site and compiling Annual Environmental Returns;
Being the expert for all aspects of environmental programs/initiatives across the site and providing technical support to change-management processes and changes to site operations and infrastructure;
Manage risk and implement control measures;
Manage all environmental issues relating to Land fill on site;
Implement comprehensive environmental programs across the site that meet best practice and focus on continuous improvement;
Work with H&S Department to ensure that the Company Safety Statement is kept up to date with any changes to best practices on Environmental issues at the Plant;
Contribute and report on high level objectives and targets for group and management; Advises line management and assists with the implementation of new or existing Environmental legislation, rules and Company standards;
Maintain and Manage compliance with company IPPC License;
Actively develop, implement and promote Environmental policies to comply with Corporate and Regulatory requirements;
To develop a Communication Strategy for the site, across all levels of staff, to include written information, tool box talks and management briefs;
To audit Environmental Systems on site, to confirm and promote compliance. To complete prevention inspections on a regular basis and ensure records maintained of same;
Train and guide persons on all aspects of the Environment as required, both formally and informally;
Ensure that an effective and appropriate Environmental database/management system is maintained;
KPIs should be tracked and reported to the management team, corporate and regulatory agencies as required;
On-going review and update of standard operating procedures and risk assessments;
Coach line managers and supervisors on how to implement risk assessments relating to the environment;
Engage with contractors and external stakeholders, as necessary;
Coordinate & Manage Environmental sub-contractors/consultants contributing to projects/work on site;
Conduct investigations into process and plant incidents, recommend and participate in corrective actions;
Assist in general Health & Safety issues as requested;
Must have strong IT skills (MS Office);
Market and customer orientation is vital.
Control and Coordination tasks
Ensure that Environmental communication and training plans are maintained and implemented;
Collation, analysis and management of Environmental incidents / accidents statistics and recommendation of intervention strategies to eliminate and reduce further occurrences.
A minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience in fulfilling similar functions or in a similar role;
At least 3 years experience in a continuous manufacturing environment in a heavy industrial environment;
Comprehensive knowledge of landfills, ecology, noise, air and traffic and other EIAR subject areas and the interrelationships between them;
Project Management experience and / or qualification desirable;
Working knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and practices.
Degree qualified in earth science, environmental science, geology, hydrogeology or equivalent (MSc an advantage).
Experience in IPPC license and Environmental Management essential;
Must keep up to date with all regulatory developments and best practice in Environmental issues.

This position requires flexibility and availability as demanded by the needs of a continuous plant process-thus flexible hours and weekend interaction with the plant may be required;

Working hours are 2.5 days per week. Rate of pay is €45 p/h.
