Senior Occupational Therapist

Job Purpose
The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the development and delivery of therapeutic interventions and strategies to ensure students can maximise their learning outcomes and participate fully in their studies.
The Senior Occupational Therapist’s role serves a dual purpose:
- conducting needs assessments for students, and managing a caseload of students primarily with Mental Health diagnosis, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Physical Disability, or other complex difficulties so they may engage successfully in their studies at University of Limerick.
- providing individual and group occupational therapy support and follow-up to students registered and designing and delivering intervention programmes to facilitate independence in education
The Senior Occupational Therapist will provide advice and guidance on disability related matters to university staff; will contribute to the development and review of related policies to ensure compliance with legislation; and will also have a role in developing partnerships with academic and professional colleagues at University of Limerick community to promote an inclusive learning environment for all students, including those with disabilities.
Minimum Education & Skills required
- Hold a qualification approved by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU
- Current membership of AOTI and CORU
- Recognised professional accreditation in Occupational Therapy by Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland (AOTI)
- 4 years post qualification experience
- Sufficient clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning skills and evidence based practice to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role
- Satisfactory experience in mental health occupational therapy practice
- Ability to prioritise workload and use resources effectively
- Experience working with third level students in an educational environment is desirable
- Comprehensive knowledge of disabilities and their effects in education
- Knowledge of the legislative framework within which the University is operating
- Knowledge of the range of reasonable accommodations/adjustments available and the appropriate use of such accommodations/adjustments
- Ability to plan and deliver care in an effective and resourceful manner
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Work closely with University of Limerick team to shape the operational development of the OT service ensuring the service meets the needs of the students accessing support
- Complete needs assessments for students registering with University of Limerick to assess student needs on the basis of evidence of disability and put in place supports and reasonable accommodations appropriate to student need
- Manage a caseload of students, with a focus primarily on students registered with primarily with Mental Health diagnosis, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Physical Disability, or other complex difficulties so they may engage successfully in their studies.
- Deliver individual and group occupational therapy sessions to students, ensuring compliance with professional standards and ethics at all times.
Additional requirements
- Reporting to University of Limerick Disability Officer
- Knowledge of the safeguarding of vulnerable adults protocols
- Ability to build effective working relationships and work successfully in a team environment
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email and Internet
