Description

Our client, the Beacon Hospital, are seeking a Senior Radiation Therapist for a fixed term contract, in Dublin.

The purpose of this job is to provide exceptional patient care, ensuring that quality, respect, compassion, and care are at the core of the service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a caring environment for all patients, from paediatrics to geriatrics, along with staff and visitors.
  • Deliver radiation treatment following written prescriptions and treatment plans.
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to departmental procedures and reporting any deviations.
  • Maintain accurate treatment records and documentation.
  • Review and take electronic images for quality assurance.
  • Explain treatment procedures and side effects to patients and families, referring them to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Perform and document localisation images, measurements, and simulation data.
  • Input treatment data into the patient management system and assist with treatment-related procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, addressing concerns and reporting observations.
  • Perform quality assurance (QA) checks on equipment and report findings outside the normal range.
  • Participate in departmental QA programs and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly treatment room and provide on-call coverage for emergencies.
  • Assist in the daily running of treatment units and supervise junior staff.
  • Adhere to professional codes of conduct and ethics.
  • Assess patients individually, implement care plans, and involve families when appropriate.
  • Ensure patient care is aligned with hospital policies and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Participate in quality management processes, evaluate current practices, and contribute to audits and hospital accreditation.
  • Identify and communicate issues to the Radiotherapy Services Manager.
  • Confidently apply hospital policies and manage complaints effectively.
  • Monitor risk management processes and interdisciplinary communication.
  • Attend mandatory training and maintain a professional portfolio.
  • Promote the nursing profession through personal conduct.Engage in research and education for patients and families.
  • Act as a mentor or preceptor to students and newly appointed staff.
  • Participate in performance reviews and personal development activities.
  • Develop teaching skills and contribute to orientation and training programs for junior staff and students.
  • Provide feedback and support for student and junior therapist assessments.
  • Identify and enhance learning opportunities in the clinical area.
  • Participate in the induction of new therapy and support staff.
  • Take responsibility for personal learning and leadership development.
  • Utilize effective time management, maintain a professional appearance, and comply with hospital policies.
  • Attend staff meetings and required in-service training.
  • Remain flexible to meet hospital needs, including assisting other departments.

Criteria/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent.
  • IIR validation or course recognition.
  • CORU Registration.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate Radiotherapy experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of technical knowledge and critical decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of new developments in radiotherapy.
  • Effective planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Flexibility in work schedule and assignments.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
