Description

Job description

This 12-month post will provide training in all aspects of medical oncology including experience of advanced surgical and interventional oncologic procedures. Duties will involve daily collaboration with all clinical and non-clinical teams and you will be required to assist with the daily care of both inpatients and chemotherapy outpatients, consultations, client communication, diagnostic procedures and treatments. You will share primary care responsibility of our medical oncology patients with another medical oncology intern. You will also be included in the out-of-hours rota. Active involvement with clinical research is encouraged, leading towards a peer-reviewed publication.

You will be closely supervised by three specialists in medical oncology, all with different experiences, guaranteeing you a unique learning opportunity. Upon completing the program, you will have gained confidence and competence in the comprehensive care of the small animal cancer patient. This post is ideally suited for candidates considering residency training in oncology, or for those interested in improving their medical oncology knowledge and confidence. We will help tailor your training to your objectives. Six previous interns have gone on to oncology residencies at UK universities.

The successful candidate must be a graduated veterinary surgeon and preferably have completed a one-year rotating internship or at least two years of general small animal practice. In addition, you will be care driven, be exceptionally organised, thorough and be able to operate in a 24/7 team environment.

You must be able to communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing.

If you are not exempt from proving your English language proficiency, you must take an IELTS test (from the British Council). You will require an average overall score of at least 7.0 and a minimum of 6.5 in one of the listening, reading, writing and speaking components is required.

Off-site accommodation is available for the duration of the internship if required.

Benefits

30 days holiday (pro-rated according to contract), external CPD allowance, RCVS registration, employee assistance programme, healthcare benefits, group life assurance, work based pension scheme, free parking and fresh fruit delivered each week.
