Job Overview
Our client is currently expanding their services and is seeking applications for a Senior Occupational Therapist job. The successful candidate will work alongside a Basic Grade Occupational Therapist and a diverse multidisciplinary team in a newly developed mental health service. This job offers necessary training and development to ensure the candidate can effectively fulfill the responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will play a crucial role in assessing, planning, and implementing therapeutic interventions for individuals with complex mental health difficulties. Your primary duties will include:
- Caseload Management: Manage a caseload by carrying out assessments, evidence-based interventions, and evaluating treatment programs for individuals in a low secure mental health unit. Focus on self-care, productive, and leisure occupations.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Care Workers, and Assistance Support Workers to meet the person-centered needs of individuals.
- Therapy Programs: Develop and facilitate individual and group therapy programs within the mental health unit based on identified occupational performance difficulties.
- Recovery-Oriented Practice: Promote recovery-oriented occupational therapy practice in interactions and work with individuals, staff, and other key stakeholders.
- Compliance Promotion: Participate in promoting compliance with the Judgement Support Framework.
- Care Planning: Contribute to individual care planning, risk assessment, and risk management.
- Documentation: Complete detailed reports for internal/external stakeholders and ensure high-quality documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and reports according to our client's policy and professional standards.
- Stakeholder Support: Provide support to key stakeholders for the implementation of Occupational Therapy recommendations.
- Team Participation: Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical department meetings, and occupational therapy department meetings.
- Supervision: Direct and supervise Occupational Therapy students and Occupational Therapists. Deputize for the Occupational Therapy Manager as required.
- Professional Conduct: Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional practice standards in all aspects of practice.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain files and records on service users following the records policy.
Education and Training:
- Mandatory Training: Complete any mandatory trainings assigned through our client's Learning Management System.
- Continuous Learning: Attend internal/external conferences/courses relevant to practice.
- Clinical Supervision: Participate in and follow up on actions or learnings identified from clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
Skills Requirement
Qualification:
- Level 8 degree in Occupational Therapy.
- Registered member of CORU.
Knowledge:
- Familiarity with standards and legislation relevant to occupational therapy.
Experience:
- Previous experience in a clinical setting, preferably with individuals having complex mental health needs.
Skills:
- Excellent clinical skills and extensive medical knowledge.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective time management and ability to prioritize clinical work.
- Capability to evaluate personal performance as a Senior Leader and Consultant.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
