Experienced Veterinary Surgeon

Location:  Cork
Salary: 45,000 60,000 Pro Rata (Dependent on Experience)
Role Type: Part-time, 20 hours per week (flexible)

An established veterinary hospital in Cork is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join its skilled and supportive team. With over 40 years of trusted service in animal healthcare and a reputation for compassionate, community-focused care, this clinic offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated vet to thrive in a collaborative environment.

The hospital operates to a high standard of veterinary medicine, equipped with advanced surgical, diagnostic, and medical facilities. Within the team are highly experienced vets and nurses, including certificate holders across a range of specialties such as Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Endoscopy, ECC, and Anaesthesia.

The ideal candidate will be a Veterinary Surgeon with at least two years experience, a strong interest in small animal practice, and a commitment to providing the highest level of care. They will be a team player who is motivated, diligent, and client-focused. Continuous professional development is actively encouraged and supported, with opportunities for further education and specialist training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, treat, and care for patients in line with the standards of the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
  • Manage a wide range of cases and perform surgical procedures with confidence and precision.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and prescribe medications safely.

  • Provide clear, empathetic communication with clients regarding diagnostics, treatment options, and care plans.
  • Ensure an excellent client experience across all interactions.

  • Promote preventative healthcare plans and insurance to support optimal patient wellbeing.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to deliver consistent, compassionate veterinary care.
  • Participate in staff training and contribute to maintaining best practice standards.
  • Carry out administrative tasks including referral letters, laboratory submissions, vaccination records, passports, and insurance forms.
  • Adhere to professional conduct guidelines and remain up to date with CPD requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Registered Veterinary Surgeon.

  • Membership of the Veterinary Council of Ireland (VCI).

  • Strong surgical and clinical skills.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and client-care abilities.

  • Motivation to develop professionally within a supportive team environment.

This role is part-time (20 hours per week, with flexibility) and offers a salary of 45,000 60,000 pro rata, dependent on experience.
