Innovative Ideas – Have Your Say

So what is innovation………..

‘Executing an idea which addresses a specific challenge and achieves value for both the company and customer’

An innovative idea does not have to be new/inventive or technology related, it can be something that simply improves a work process, takes out steps that are not required or adds to a positive company culture.

How to get involved:

The quarterly meetings are one way to get involved in innovation – an opportunity to discuss ideas, offer suggestions and brainstorm ideas with like minded colleagues. We appreciate that getting cover, being out of the office, working in the evenings/ weekends etc can be an issue for some staff so in addition to the meetings we also have other ways for you to be involved :

  • Log into The Dock with your username and password (If you do not have a username please contact Davey on dcaldwell@servisource.ie)
  • Click on the tile for Innovative Ideas
  • You will see our post titled Innovative Ideas – Have Your Say
  • Click on the Read More button to open the post
  • Scroll down to the bottom of this post to the comments section
  • Here you can submit your innovative idea by simply leaving a comment
  • Staff visitors to the post can then Up-Vote or Down-Vote the different innovative ideas submitted by colleagues by clicking the black Up or Down arrows at the top of each comment/idea
  • Once per quarter the Innovation team will meet and discuss with the management team the feasibility of all ideas
  • Amy and Eimear will be touring the offices with the GPTW promoting innnovation and gathering ideas from around the country
  • Innovation Champions – looking for staff within teams or regions to bring ideas forward on behalf of others
  • Alternatively If you have an idea but would like to submit it anonymously or an area that you think we can develop, remove/replace, come up with a better process you can send it to innovation@servisource.ie
  • There is no commitment to meetings or follow through, you are experts in your own areas and we need your ideas and suggestions to improve your work processes. You are valved as team members and want your input into how we can make this an even better GPTW.

Next Innovation meeting on Tuesday 16th April 2019.

Any questions, give Ciara or Sammy a shout.

Comment below any innovative ideas you may have to make our workplace a better place. Each quarter the innovation team will discuss all ideas and comments with the management team.

  1. Walking meetings
I would love to have the occasional walking meeting especially as the weather is getting better. I believe it may generate new ideas with a change of scenery and fresh air.

    1. Lovely idea, especially now that the weather is getting better. Nice to have an alternative to sitting in the office. Feedback from those who try this would be great.

        1. lol Lisa, never thought of the note taking! Phone could definitely be used – notes or voice recorder. We could use the time to exercise our brains and challenge it to remember what needs to be actioned and by whom by the time we get back to the office. Mental and physical well-being looked after in one walk! Definitely up for a walking meeting anytime (now that the weather have improved 🙂 )

      1. Think this would be a great idea, just wondering how you take notes – do you just take them on your phone?

  2. Tennis ball baskets at entrance/exit
This is an anonymous way to address the culture within the office. Basically, there are 2 baskets, 1 for ‘i’ve had a good day today’ and the other for ‘i’ve had a bad day’ (or something along these lines) At the end of each day everyone throws a ball into their relevant basket.
At the end of the month/week we can analyse which basket is fullest and address the issue or celebrate the positive.

    1. Interesting idea Amy, how do we envisage getting feedback from staff as to which and why they put a tennis ball in a particular? Great to be able to analyse the data to gauge how people are feeling at the end of their day over a period of time.

  3. More encouragement to get involved in voluntary work in the locality on set days, rather than always contributing with money to charity (which is fantastic also)
Ideally we would all be on roster where we attend voluntary work for a couple of hours on a Friday for example.

    1. Great idea Amy, getting involved in local charity work is very important, both as a doing a great thing for our local communities and for raising the profile of the company. I know CPL also have a policy of giving time each year (paid) to do charity work.
Would be interesting to get some ideas of local charities we could get involved with. Anyone any suggestions?

  5. Good morning – Topics discussed at meeting on 14th Feb 19

    * Docu sign – contracts – revise the process – Client based (suggestion from Davey)
    * Employee handbook – eg. Homecare app form online – issues to be highlighted and feedback to
    IT/Marketing
    * Bot innovation – Recruitment – Bots –going to take over with the pre-qualifying question ‘’message
based’’ then populated the lead into Salesforce. CSV – File imported to Salesforce

Any questions, please respond to the post or email us at innovation@servisource.ie as we would love to hear from you.

  6. At a recent event, I attended a workshop which used an interactive survey platform, we were all given a link to follow and we could answer the questions given and our answers showed on the board. I found it really useful in the workshop as it started conversations around the topic.

I thought it would be a really useful tool for us, in particular for the muffin meeting, all offices could get involved and we are gaining feedback in real time on topics we are discussing. It could also be used in a less formal way just to get some ideas or opinions on a topic.

I created an account to get the hang of it, accounts are free and seems easy enough to use.

    Jenny

    1. Great Jenny, brilliant idea. It looks like a very interactive tool to show results in real time to questions that are asked during meetings. Great to engage staff and get feedback through an anonymous interactive tool. Great for Muffin meetings, presentations, GPTW…..

  7. Relaxation/exercise/personal/chill out area – a fun space where we can use during lunch etc to escape from work.

    1. Lovely idea Katisha, would be great to have an area in the building that could be used as a downtime and social area. Good thinking!

  8. Recycling bins – for the kitchen. One of the easiest ways to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce waste.

    1. The power of one (or one company!), think we all good at recycling and no reason we should not have these facilities here in work. One of those bins that has the different options for the different waste types!

  9. I think it would be a great idea to organise ‘Bring your dog to work day’ (allocated time) and get the local Dog Rescue involved – it would be a great opportunity to get involved with a local charity and also very good for staff morale .
It is a known fact that dogs help humans reduce stress.
And reduced stress also benefits physical health and everyone benefits from having less stress in their lives …

    1. Think that’s a great idea Martina and raising money for a great charity in the interim.

We could even do a ServiCrufts and have the Dog Rescue as the judges.

      🙂

      1. Lovely idea Martina, as a dog lover myself love this idea – something that raises our profile, reduces stress with the added bonus of raising some money for charity and involving a local group. We could have a lunch time dog walk and tie it into our wellness programme too.
Set up an agility course in the training room for the dogs :):)
        @Lisa – love the name – ServiCrufts

  10. Hi everyone,
Thought it might be handy if on everybody’s desk there was a placard with each staff members name and role and team which was high enough to be viewed by the entire office, something like what you’d see on wedding tables.
Would definitely help with new starters getting to know what people do in other divisions and makes it easier to remember people’s names who you might not work closely with.
